Gulbenes vēstures un mākslas muzejs (Gulbene Municipality History and Art Museum) has settled in the former greenhouse and the barn. It offers to see the permanent exposition of the history of Gulbene, temporary exhibitions and wide collection of museum stock objects. Museum offers excursions in exhibitions, expositions, open collection depositary, around Gulbene town and municipality, also museum pedagogical classes for different age groups. There are 16 workers in museum. Museum has experience in hosting 2 senior (Italian and Portuguese) volunteers in frames of projects “Senior Pass” and “Senior Plus”, coordinated by municipality council.

Descripción de la actividad:

Volunteer is welcome to work with manual or semi-mechanical (semiautomatic) looms from 1930. He/she can help with weaving fabrics, can be taught by the museum’s workers to work with looms, or if already has expertise – can teach this old tradition for adults in Gulbene district.
Museum also would like to host senior volunteer who is able to do preventing conservation for material cultural heritage in stock (cleaning, washing, but not restore) with limited materials and without special work studio.
Volunteer can help also with different practical, technical works (cleaning, preparing exhibitions or rooms for events etc.).
Museum on workdays usually is open from 8 a.m. till 5 p.m.

Condiciones logísticas:

Accommodation 1: place in youth hostel (1-3 persons in room – depends on hostel’s occupation), shared bathrooms, toilets (located in the corridor), shared well equipped kitchen with cooking facilities, TV. Towels and linen are included. Possible roommates – other senior volunteers. Catering: in workdays lunch in school’s canteen or fast food canteen (~ EUR 3-5), possibility to cook in the kitchen of the hostel, shops are located in 2-7 minutes walking distance from the accommodation place, 15 – 20 minutes walking distance from the workplace. 20 – 25 minutes walking distance from the hostel till the museum. Catering: in workdays lunch in school’s canteen or fast food canteen (~ EUR 3-5), possibility to cook in the kitchen of the hostel, shops are located in 2-7 minutes walking distance from the accommodation place, 15 – 20 minutes walking distance from the workplace. 20 – 25 minutes walking distance from the hostel till the museum. Free WiFI in the museum and also in the hostel. The museum is located in short walking distance from the town’s centre. No public transport needed. Everything is in walking distance (post office, banks, pharmacy, bus station, cafes). Use public transport – bus - to get from the capital city Riga to Gulbene town. No train connection possible.

Museum prefers volunteer which is interested to work with museum’s material and non-material cultural heritage and has some skills or previous experience in relevant work. Expertise in work with looms will be highly appreciated.
